Practice-Area Search Insight
Match Every Legal Problem to a Page With
SEO for Lawyers That Turns Searches Into Consultations
SEO for lawyers means ranking for the problem, not the profession. Australians search “lawyer” about 22,200 times a month, yet “conveyancer” matches that exactly and “family lawyer” adds 12,100 more. Each practice area has its own searchers, seasons and click prices. We build practice-area pages that explain the process clearly, keep every claim inside rule 36 of the Australian Solicitors’ Conduct Rules and give each area its own chance to rank.
For suburban general practices, family and criminal firms, conveyancing and estates teams, and employment or immigration boutiques that want work from search, not just referrals.
Why Practice-Area Pages Carry a Law Firm
Fewer than one in five “lawyer” searches adds “near me”: 4,400 a month against 22,200. People describe their problem instead, naming a divorce, a will, a visa or an unfair dismissal. A firm ranks when each practice area has its own page, written by a named solicitor, answering what happens next and what it may cost.
How Clients Search
Why Directories Are Not Enough for Firms
Directory profiles send clients to a list of competitors. Your own practice-area pages keep the reader with you through the decision.
Conveyancing is a volume market
“Conveyancer” draws 22,200 searches a month, level with “lawyer”. Licensed conveyancers compete for it in several states, so solicitor-led pages should explain what they add.
Plan around family-law peaks
“Family lawyer” searches averaged 12,100 but jumped to 27,100 in February 2026. Divorce searches hit 5,400 in three separate months of 2026.
Specialist wording under rule 36
Only accredited specialists may call themselves specialists. We use “practises in” or “focuses on” wording unless your accreditation is real and current.
Care with personal injury content
Clicks cost US$68.65, the highest in our legal data, but NSW and Queensland restrict personal injury advertising. Every page is checked against your state’s rules first.
Reviews without breaching confidence
Replies never confirm a matter or discuss its facts. Review requests ask about communication and clarity, so feedback helps future clients without exposing anyone.
Where Australian Legal Searches Actually Go
Google Ads data for Australia covering September 2025 to August 2026, across ten searches people use when they need a lawyer.
| Search term | Searches / month | Paid click (USD) |
|---|---|---|
| lawyer | 22,200 | $15.68 |
| lawyers near me | 4,400 | $9.91 |
| conveyancer | 22,200 | $21.70 |
| family lawyer | 12,100 | $25.63 |
| divorce lawyer | 3,600 | $25.87 |
| criminal lawyer | 3,600 | $34.47 |
| employment lawyer | 3,600 | $23.56 |
| immigration lawyer | 3,600 | $14.35 |
| personal injury lawyer | 2,400 | $68.65 |
| wills and estate lawyer | 1,300 | $11.91 |
Rule 36 and personal injury advertising
Rule 36 of the Australian Solicitors' Conduct Rules bans false, misleading or deceptive advertising and stops solicitors implying they are specialists unless accredited. NSW and Queensland also restrict how personal injury services are advertised. For SEO, that means no “specialist” keywords without accreditation, no outcome promises and injury pages checked against state law.
Problems outnumber professions
The eight practice-area searches in our table total 52,400 a month, roughly double the 26,600 for “lawyer” and “lawyers near me” combined. Firms relying on a single services page are competing for the smaller share of legal demand.
Click prices vary widely
A “personal injury lawyer” click averages US$68.65, against US$11.91 for “wills and estate lawyer” and US$9.91 for “lawyers near me”. High-cost areas justify organic investment, provided the content fits the advertising rules in your state.

Frequently Asked Questions
Only if a solicitor at the firm is an accredited specialist in family law. Rule 36 of the Australian Solicitors' Conduct Rules prohibits stating or implying specialist status without accreditation from a recognised professional association. Without it, we target phrases like “family lawyer”, which already draws about 12,100 searches a month, and describe your experience in plain, verifiable terms. Where a solicitor is accredited, we name the accrediting body and the area on their profile page.
Some practice areas do. “Family lawyer” searches sat between 8,100 and 12,100 in most months but reached 27,100 in February 2026, and dropped to 6,600 in December 2025. “Wills and estate lawyer” peaked at 3,600 in September 2025. Conveyancing barely moved, staying between 18,100 and 27,100. We schedule content and profile updates a few weeks ahead of each area's known peaks.
Respond politely and never confirm a matter. A solicitor's duty of confidentiality means replies should not acknowledge that the reviewer was a client or refer to any facts, even when the review is unfair. We draft neutral reply templates, ask satisfied clients to comment on communication and clarity rather than results, and avoid incentives, which break Google's review policies. That keeps reviews working for your rankings without creating a conduct risk.
For high-cost practice areas it often is. Paid clicks average US$34.47 for “criminal lawyer” and US$68.65 for “personal injury lawyer”, and every click is paid for again next month. Our legal SEO retainers sit between A$900 and A$3,000 monthly, depending on practice areas and offices. Many firms keep a small ads budget for urgent matters while organic pages build. We do not lock you in or promise rankings.
They may, if your firm is easy to verify. Assistants answering a question like “who can help with an unfair dismissal claim” tend to draw on pages that explain the process, show the solicitor's name and admission details, and match your listings elsewhere. We structure practice-area pages and schema for that, and our AI search optimisation service checks whether ChatGPT and Google's AI Overviews mention you.
It can, but give it its own section. “Conveyancer” draws about 22,200 searches a month, level with “lawyer”, and these clients often compare on fees and turnaround rather than courtroom experience. A dedicated conveyancing hub with clear pricing information and property-focused content can rank without diluting your litigation pages. In states where licensed conveyancers operate, explain what a solicitor adds, without disparaging anyone.
