SEO for Travel Sellers
Sell the Trip, Not the Title, With
SEO for Travel Agencies That Beats OTA Comparison Sites
Travel agency SEO works best when it ranks the trips you sell rather than the words “travel agent”. In Australian Google data, “travel agents” and “travel agent near me” together draw about 9,000 searches a month, while five destination and product searches (Europe tours, holiday packages, Japan tour packages, cruise deals and Bali packages) add up to 34,400. Agencies that publish expert itinerary pages for those trips meet travellers earlier in the decision.
For independent and franchised travel agencies, cruise specialists, tour wholesalers, group travel organisers and corporate travel managers selling to Australian clients.
Why Destination Pages Beat Generic Agency Pages
Travellers rarely start by choosing an agent. They start with a place: Japan in autumn, a Mediterranean cruise, a first trip to Europe. An agency ranks when its pages answer those planning questions with first-hand detail, realistic itineraries and clear inclusions, then offer a consultant who has been there. Generic “we book everything” copy gives Google nothing to rank.
The January Effect
When Australians Decide Where to Go Next
January 2026 was the peak month for “travel agents”, “cruise deals” and “travel agent near me” in our data. Pages need to be live and ranking before then.
Rank for the destination first
“Europe tours” averages 9,900 searches a month against 6,600 for “travel agents”. Destination pages written by consultants who know the region capture that earlier interest.
Catch the September Europe rush
Europe tour searches reached 18,100 in September 2025 and dropped to 5,400 by April 2026. Early-bird itineraries should be published during winter.
Reviews about real trips
We help you ask returning clients to mention the destination and the consultant who planned it. Those details build trust with the next traveller and with Google.
Show accreditation where it counts
ATIA Accredited status, the scheme that replaced the ATAS name, is a real trust signal now that licensing has ended. We display it only where it genuinely applies.
Win corporate travel year round
“Corporate travel” holds at 8,100 searches in most months, dipping only in December and January. A dedicated business travel page keeps that steady pipeline visible.
What Australians Searched Before Booking a Trip
Ten travel searches from Australia, averaged per month from September 2025 to August 2026, alongside the typical price of a Google Ads click.

| europe tours | 9,900 | $3.72 |
| holiday packages | 8,100 | $1.46 |

Pricing and accreditation rules
Travel agent licensing in Australia ended on 30 June 2014, so accreditation under the ATIA Accredited scheme (formerly ATAS) is voluntary. Under the Australian Consumer Law, an advertised price must include compulsory taxes and fees as a single total. For SEO, any “from” price on a page, ad or schema must be genuinely bookable at that figure.
Destinations outdraw the word “agent”
Five destination and package searches total 34,400 a month, nearly four times the 9,000 for “travel agents” and “travel agent near me” combined. Agencies that rank only for their own category leave most of the planning demand to tour operators and OTAs.
Insurance clicks are in a different league
“Travel insurance” draws 135,000 searches a month at US$15.47 a click, more than four times any other term here. Insurers own that auction. An agency is better served by answering insurance questions inside its trip pages than by chasing the head term.

Frequently Asked Questions
Yes, but it should not be your main target. “Travel agent near me” averages about 2,400 searches a month in Australia, while “europe tours” alone averages 9,900 and “holiday packages” 8,100. The local term matters for your Google Business Profile and walk-in trade. Most growth, though, comes from destination and trip-style pages that meet travellers while they are still deciding where to go.
By early spring at the latest. In our data, searches for “europe tours” peaked at 18,100 in September 2025 and stayed at 14,800 through October and November, then fell to 5,400 by April 2026. New pages usually need a few months to rank, so itineraries for the following northern summer should be live by winter, with updates as departure dates fill.
Yes, under its current name. The ATAS brand has moved to ATIA Accredited, run by the Australian Travel Industry Association. Because government licensing of travel agents ended in 2014, accreditation is one of the few independent signals a traveller can check. Show it on your site and profile only if your agency holds it, and replace any older ATAS badges so the wording is current.
Yes, as long as the price is real and complete. The Australian Consumer Law requires advertised prices to include compulsory taxes, fees and charges as a single figure, so a “from” price must be bookable at that total for at least some dates. Optional extras such as upgrades can be listed separately. We check that page copy, ads and structured data carry the same figure.
Plan on A$900 to A$3,000 per month, with the figure set by how many destinations, branches and consultants you want covered. To put that in context, a single Google Ads click on “europe tours” averages about US$3.72 and on “travel agents” about US$3.19. Destination pages that rank organically keep producing enquiries without that per-click cost, often for several seasons after they are written.
They can, when your content gives them something specific to cite. People now ask ChatGPT and Gemini to sketch itineraries, and those tools draw on pages with clear, first-hand detail about routes, timing and inclusions. Named consultants with real destination experience strengthen that. Our GEO and AI visibility service monitors whether assistants mention your agency for the trips you sell.
