SEO for Solo Attorneys
Make Your Own Name the One Clients Find
Local SEO for Attorneys
Local SEO for attorneys in solo or small practice builds one person’s visibility, not a marketing department’s. The searches that suit a small office are often the steadier, everyday matters: “real estate attorney” averages 49,500 US searches a month at $13.20 a click and “will lawyer” 14,800 at $10.10, while “dui lawyer” costs $87.09 per click. We build your profile, your bio and a short set of focused pages around the matters you actually want to take on.
For solo practitioners and two- or three-attorney offices across the US, including lawyers working from a home office, a shared suite or a small storefront on main street.
Why It Works for Solos
Why a Small Practice Can Outrank Bigger Names
Map results reward nearby, relevant and well-reviewed listings, not headcount. A solo with a complete profile and clear pages can sit above a larger firm across town.
Lead with your name and admission
Choose the matters you want
Answer the free-consultation question
Stay clear of specialist claims
Win the searches closest to you
For a one-attorney office the order is simple: fix the Google Business Profile and your bio first, publish a page for each matter you want more of, then build reviews at a steady pace.

Everyday Legal Searches a Small Practice Can Win
US Google Ads averages for September 2025 to August 2026. We chose matters that solo and small offices commonly handle, plus two general near-me searches.
| Search term | Searches / month | Paid click (USD) |
|---|---|---|
| attorney near me | 49,500 | $20.75 |
| real estate attorney | 49,500 | $13.20 |
| dui lawyer* | 91,200 | $87.09 |
| probate lawyer | 27,100 | $24.18 |
| traffic ticket lawyer | 18,100 | $14.87 |
| will lawyer | 14,800 | $10.10 |
| landlord tenant lawyer | 14,800 | $8.63 |
| lawyers near me free consultation | 4,400 | $20.17 |
| small business lawyer | 3,600 | $24.46 |
Specialist and contact rules
ABA Model Rule 7.2(c) bars stating or implying that a lawyer is a certified specialist unless an organization approved by the state or accredited by the ABA has certified them, and that body is clearly named. Rule 7.2(d) requires the name and contact details of a responsible lawyer or firm. State versions vary, and we follow yours.
Steady matters, modest click prices
“real estate attorney” (49,500 searches, $13.20), “will lawyer” (14,800, $10.10) and “landlord tenant lawyer” (14,800, $8.63) all cost a fraction of “dui lawyer” at $87.09 a click. “lawyers near me free consultation” is small at 4,400 a month, yet it is the only term here that Google rates as high ad competition, a sign that practices fight over it.
Timing differs by matter
“traffic ticket lawyer” peaked at 33,100 in March 2026 and fell to 12,100 from June to August. “will lawyer” was highest in September 2025 at 22,200 and lowest in June 2026 at 8,100. “landlord tenant lawyer” hit 22,200 in September 2025 and January 2026, then eased to 8,100 over summer 2026. A solo with few pages gains the most by publishing ahead of each rise.

Four Ways Solo Attorneys Chase New Clients
For a solo attorney, the real price of every option is time.
| DIY SEO | Cheap agency | Lead brokers | Serpwize attorney SEO | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Your time each month | Many hours | A little, then fixes | Answering shared leads | A short approval call |
| Who the client meets online | You, if you keep it up | A stock template | The broker's brand | You, with your credentials |
| Matter focus | Whatever you write | Generic | Whatever they sell | Only the matters you pick |
| Specialist wording | Easy to get wrong | Rarely checked | Outside your control | Checked against Rule 7.2(c) |
| If you stop | Pages stay and go stale | Little remains | Leads stop | Pages and reviews stay yours |
| What you learn | Guesswork | Traffic totals | Lead counts | Calls and consultations by matter |
A Case Study, Described Plainly
This was a legal services marketplace, not a solo practice. It shows how consultation searches can be won, not what your office will see.
Four Setup Choices That Decide a Solo Attorney's Visibility
Most visibility problems we see in one-attorney offices come from setup, not from a lack of content.
One profile, not two
Google's guidelines say that when a single practitioner is the only public-facing professional at a branded location, the practitioner and the firm should share one Business Profile, named in a format such as “Firm: Attorney Name”. Two competing profiles split your reviews and confuse the map.
Home offices and shared suites
If clients never visit your home, hide the address and set a service area instead. A virtual office is not eligible for a profile unless it is staffed during your listed hours. A shared suite with your own signage and regular hours usually is, and it gives you a real pin on the map.
Your bio is the page that ranks
For a solo, the bio often outranks the homepage. It should state where you are admitted and since when, the courts you appear in, your law school, languages you speak and the matters you take, with a link to your public state bar record so both clients and search engines can verify it.
Rule 7.2(d) on every page
ABA Model Rule 7.2(d) asks that lawyer advertising include the name and contact information of at least one lawyer or firm responsible for its content. We put yours in the site footer and on every matter page, which also gives search engines a consistent name, address and phone number.

Frequently Asked Questions
If you are the only attorney clients deal with, use one profile that carries both. Google's guidelines for individual practitioners suggest a format like “Firm: Attorney Name” when one professional represents a branded office. Keep the firm name itself accurate, too: the comments to ABA Model Rule 7.1 warn against implying a partnership or larger organization that does not exist, so a name such as “and Associates” deserves a second look when only one lawyer practices there.
Only if you actually meet clients there during the hours you list. Otherwise hide the address and set the counties or cities you serve as a service area; you can still rank in the map for nearby searches. A virtual office or mail service does not qualify unless it is staffed during your hours, and Google suspends listings that break this rule. A shared suite with your own signage is often the practical middle ground.
Often, if it is true and the terms are clear. US searchers type “lawyers near me free consultation” about 4,400 times a month, and Google rates the ad competition for it as high. Rule 7.1 means the offer must not mislead, so state its length and any limits, such as which matters qualify. State versions of the rule differ, so we confirm yours before the offer goes on your profile or pages.
Only if you hold a qualifying certification. ABA Model Rule 7.2(c) allows a lawyer to claim certified specialist status when an organization approved by the state, or accredited by the ABA, has certified them, and the certifying body is named. Without that, we describe your focus in plain terms, such as the matters you handle and how long you have handled them, which tells a reader more than a label would.
About an hour for most solo attorneys. You approve drafts, answer a few questions about your matters and send the review request link to clients who are happy to leave one. Our team works in India, overnight by US clocks, so drafts are usually waiting before your day starts. Calls are optional and short, booked for early morning Eastern time or the Pacific evening.
Yes, and size is less of a barrier there than people expect. Assistants that recommend local attorneys lean on consistent listings, detailed bios, reviews and pages that explain a matter clearly, all things a solo can control. A bio that matches your state bar record and your Google profile word for word is especially useful. Our GEO service for AI search checks whether tools such as ChatGPT and Gemini name you for matters in your town.
