Restaurant, Cafe and Bar SEO
Fill Tables From the Map With
SEO for Hospitality That Fills Your Tables
Restaurant and cafe SEO is mostly a Google Maps contest. Australians search “restaurants near me” about 6.12 million times a month and “cafe near me” about 3.35 million times, yet a paid click on those terms costs roughly US$0.33 and US$0.27. With ads that cheap, the Map Pack is where venues really compete: accurate hours, a readable menu, recent photos and reviews that mention dishes decide who gets the table.
For independent restaurants, cafes, pubs, small bars, caterers and function venues, plus hospitality groups running several sites in one city or across states.
What Decides the Dining Map Pack
Distance matters, but it is only one factor. Google also weighs how well your profile matches the search and how prominent you are. A cafe that lists breakfast and brunch as menu items, keeps holiday hours current and replies to reviews will often outrank a closer venue with a half-empty profile.
Why It Pays
How Diners Choose Somewhere to Eat Now
Many diners now choose a venue on their phone shortly before they go. They scan the photos, check the menu and read two or three recent reviews.
Menus Google can read
A text menu on your site, not only a PDF, lets search engines see dishes, dietary options and prices, so you can appear for specific cravings.
Win the weekend breakfast search
“Breakfast near me” averages 368,000 searches a month and “brunch near me” 135,000. Both reached their highest point in December 2025.
Reviews that name the dishes
A table card or receipt note asking guests what they ordered produces reviews that mention your food, which helps Google connect you to dish searches.
Plan for the rooftop season
“Rooftop bar” searches fell from 60,500 in January 2026 to 27,100 in June. Outdoor venues should push content in spring, not mid-winter.
Profit from catering enquiries
“Catering near me” costs about US$2.70 a click, roughly ten times a cafe search. Ranking organically for catering saves the most ad spend.
The Size of Australia's Near-Me Dining Searches
Average monthly Google searches from Australia, September 2025 to August 2026, for ten terms diners and event planners use, with the average paid click price.
| Search term | Searches / month | Paid click (USD) |
|---|---|---|
| restaurants near me | 6,120,000 | $0.33 |
| cafe near me | 3,350,000 | $0.27 |
| food near me | 1,830,000 | $0.51 |
| pubs near me | 673,000 | $0.35 |
| bars near me | 450,000 | $0.28 |
| breakfast near me | 368,000 | $0.27 |
| brunch near me | 135,000 | $0.23 |
| rooftop bar | 49,500 | $0.53 |
| catering near me | 6,600 | $2.70 |
| function rooms | 2,400 | $3.45 |
Menu rules that affect your listings
Since 1 July 2026, venues serving seafood must show its origin on menus and boards using the AIM model: A for Australian, I for imported, M for mixed. Food safety Standard 3.2.2A also requires most food service businesses to have a certified food safety supervisor. We keep online menus consistent with the labels on your printed ones.
Diners are cheap to advertise to
Eight of the ten searches in this table cost under US$0.55 a click, and “brunch near me” just US$0.23. When ads are this cheap, competitors can buy the top of the page easily, so a well-kept Map Pack profile is the part they cannot simply outbid.
Events pay, and so do the clicks
“Catering near me” (US$2.70) and “function rooms” (US$3.45) cost ten to thirteen times more per click than a cafe search. Function room searches were highest in September 2025 at 3,600 and lowest in December at 1,600, which suggests planners book well ahead of the party season.

Frequently Asked Questions
Yes, because the demand is enormous and local. Australians search “cafe near me” about 3.35 million times a month and “restaurants near me” about 6.12 million times. Each search only shows a handful of nearby venues in the Map Pack, so moving from fifth to second in your own streets can change weekday trade. The work is mostly practical: accurate hours, a readable menu, fresh photos and steady reviews.
Yes, if you serve seafood. From 1 July 2026 hospitality businesses, including restaurants, cafes, pubs, takeaways and food trucks, must show where seafood comes from using the AIM model: Australian, imported or mixed. Records of origin have to be kept as well. When we update menu pages we match the letters to your printed menu, so online and in-venue information agree.
Mostly because those platforms have strong websites with thousands of pages and links. You will not beat them on every generic term, but you can win your own name and your local Map Pack. A complete Google Business Profile, a text menu on your site, consistent listings and a clear “order direct” link let Google treat your site as the official source for your venue.
Plan content around the swing instead of fighting it. “Rooftop bar” searches averaged 49,500 a month but fell to 27,100 in June 2026, less than half of January's 60,500. Use winter to fix citations, refresh photos and build pages for functions or heated indoor spaces, then push rooftop content from spring when searches climb again. By August 2026 they were back to 40,500.
Expect somewhere from A$900 per month for one venue up to A$3,000 for groups that need plenty of menu and event content. A single site with a strong profile often sits near the bottom of that band. If you also run catering or functions, the value rises: a paid click on “catering near me” costs about US$2.70, so each organic enquiry saves real money.
Yes. Assistants now answer questions like where to get brunch nearby, and they lean on reviews, menus and profile data. Consistent details, dish-level reviews and a crawlable menu give them accurate material. Our AI search optimisation checks whether ChatGPT, Gemini and Google's AI Overviews mention your venue and what they say about it. Wrong opening hours or an old menu in those answers can be traced back to the source and corrected.
